Owner and Founder
I am a licensed attorney in the state of Nebraska. In addition, I am a licensed patent attorney with a background in chemistry.
With that said, because patent law is based on federal statutes, patent attorneys can work from anywhere. I have two degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the first is in Political Science and the second is in Chemistry. I also have a law degree from Creighton University.
I have been a licensed attorney since 2017 and a licensed patent attorney since 2019.
For your convenience I’ve provided a link to the USPTO office, if you’d like to verify my status as a licensed patent attorney.
Michael Meyer is a USPTO-registered patent and trademark attorney (Reg. No. 78,575) who has been involved in over 400 patent matters and 200 trademark matters for inventors, startups, and companies throughout Nebraska and nationwide. Based in Gretna, Nebraska, Michael combines a rare dual expertise: a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) and a Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law.
This unique background — chemistry training plus legal expertise — allows Michael to deeply understand complex technical inventions in ways that general intellectual property attorneys cannot. Whether you're developing a new compound, agricultural biotechnology innovation, chemical process, or polymer formulation, Michael speaks your language and can translate your science into enforceable patent protection. Beyond patents, Michael's active trademark practice means he can manage your entire IP portfolio — protecting both your inventions and your brand — without bringing in outside counsel.
Unlike general patent attorneys who rely on inventors to explain technical concepts, Michael's chemistry degree enables him to:
No need to simplify organic chemistry, synthetic routes, or reaction mechanisms
Protect novel chemical compounds, formulations, and materials
Determine when to patent the compound vs. the synthesis route
Conduct patentability searches in domestic and foreign databases
Communicate directly with chemists, pharmacologists, and biotech scientists
Patent strategy for prodrugs, active metabolites, polymorphs, formulations, and lifecycle management
Michael's chemistry background makes him particularly well-suited for patent work in:
In addition to his patent work, Michael has been involved in over 200 trademark matters before the USPTO, covering the full lifecycle of brand protection — from initial clearance searches through registration, office action responses, renewals, and enforcement.
Comprehensive TESS searches, common law searches, and likelihood of confusion analysis before you invest in a brand
TEAS Plus and TEAS Standard applications for word marks, design marks, combined marks, and service marks across all 45 USPTO classes
Responding to 2(d) likelihood of confusion refusals, 2(e)(1) merely descriptive refusals, specimen rejections, and identification of goods/services issues
Securing a priority filing date before commercial use begins, including Statement of Use and Extension Request filings
Section 8 Declarations of Use, Section 15 Incontestability filings, and Section 9 renewals to keep registrations active
Cease-and-desist letters and brand protection strategy for businesses at every stage
Michael's trademark clients span a broad range of Nebraska and nationwide industries:
Trademark search and single-class filing: $500 attorney fee + USPTO filing fee ($350 per class). No hidden fees. USPTO fees are disclosed upfront. Multi-class and complex matters are quoted individually.

Most patent attorneys have engineering backgrounds or rely on technical experts to explain chemistry. Michael holds a degree in Chemistry from UNO, enabling him to:
At large law firms, clients often work with junior associates or paralegals while senior partners bill at premium rates. At Michael Meyer Law:
National patent firms and coastal attorneys charge $400–$600/hour or more. Michael's rates reflect Nebraska's cost structure:
Michael has been involved in over 400 patent matters and 200 trademark matters before the USPTO — a combined 600+ proceedings. These numbers are verifiable through the USPTO's public databases, not marketing estimates:
While based in Gretna (just outside Omaha), Michael serves clients throughout Nebraska and nationwide. Patent law is federal, so Michael can represent inventors and businesses anywhere in the United States before the USPTO.
